He was predeceased by: his parents, Howard E. Sims and Grace Brooks Sims; his children, Virginia "Ginger" Sims Wyatt and Jerry "Chip" Sims; his brothers, Harry Sims and Bobby Eugene Sims; his grandson Benjamin Zachary Sims; and his daughter-in-law Betsy Bell Sims.

He is survived by: his wife Janice Marie Williams Sims; his children, Tracy Sims, Casey Sims (Kinnett), Todd Sims (Cindy), Danny Sims (Tracy Lee) and Ashley Sims Mirseyedi (Adam Smith); his grandchildren, Josh Wyatt (Callie), Mallory Gaddy, Jamie Sims (Whitney), Cole Sims (Caitlin), Cassidy Sims, Shelby Sims, Sophie Sims, Regan Nelson Brantley, Brandon Nelson, Olivia Mirseyedi and Jacob Mirseyedi; his great grandchildren, Walker, Marley, Payton, Brooklyn, James, Betsy, Magnolia and Case; his stepson Ronnie Frank Nelson, Jr.; Steve Wyatt. He is also survived by nieces, nephews.
