He is survived by: his wife Kay Goble Birkeli; his children, Paul Birkeli (Monique), Kristin Grunewald (Justin) and Yuko Ogura; his grandchildren, Jackson Paul Birkeli, Hayes Joseph Birkeli, Harper LilyB Birkeli, Larsen Elisabeth Birkeli, Birkley Theodore Grunewald and Luke Jon Grunewald; his sisters, Brit Inger Oen (John), Torunn Elisabeth Birkeli and Aina Birkeli Jacobsen (Per Waldemar); and his sisters-in-law, Kathy Tharpe (Joe), Myra Jolly and Dotti Goble. He is also survived by nieces and nephews.
