He was predeceased by: his parents, Darvin L. Carter and Urrie Copeland Carter; his former wife Faye Herring Carter; his siblings, Larry Carter and Blanche Thornton Smith; and his stepson Carl Cox.
He is survived by: his wife Dorothy Cox Carter; his children, Andy Carter of Lake Park, Joy Crosby (Charles) of Tifton, Curtis Cox of Lake Park and Lisa Cox of Plant City, Florida; his grandchildren, Hannah Cox, Ava Garrett, Eli Crosby and Lauren Crosby; his sister Myra Kemper (Jim) of Meridian, Idaho; and his sister-in-law Jean Carter of Lake Park. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
