He was predeceased by : his parents, Ernest Blackwell, Sr. and Mary Lou Blackwell; and his siblings, Monroe Blackwell, Frances Coker, Nettie Sims and Ernest Blackwell, Jr..

He is survived by : his wife Brenda Blackwell; his daughters, Beth Hearn (Rick) and Cindy Wortham (Jay); his sister Eunice Jamieson; his grandchildren, Lauren Hearn, Katie Wortham, Tyler Wortham and Abigail Hearn; and his great grandchild Tyson Alexander Barr.

“Sandra and I are sad to lose a great friend and a great man of God. By Dan's Christian testimony and by the way he followed Jesus, I know that he is now in the presence of God. Dan, Brenda, Sandra, and I were members of the same Sunday School class for many years and together they provided us with an example of a godly family. I played golf with Dan at least once a week for about seven years, and I got to know Dan well. He was the same man on the golf course that he was at church. Steve Linhoss”
