He was predeceased by : his parents, John Henton and Erie Day Coon; his siblings, Donald, Jerri, John and Margaret; and his former life partner Margarette Reece Coon.

He is survived by : his wife Sharon; his son Eddie; his daughter-in-law Caroline Coon of Tucker, GA; his son Steve; his daughter-in-law Jodi Coon of Loganville, GA; his son Alan; his daughter-in-law Linda Coon of Braselton, GA.; his grandchildren, Jennie Shaw, Rebecca Smith, Aubree Kimmons, Andi Coon, Renee Carter, Joseph Coon III, Jonathan Coon, Brian Coon, Brooky Coon, Katie Coon and Brittney Ruff; and his great grandchildren, Vash Shaw, Knox Smith and Lively Jean Smith. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
