He was predeceased by: his parents, August Mayer and Elizabeth Mayer; and his siblings, Eugene Mayer, Elizabeth "Betty" Yanisko and Ann Louise Benedict.

He is survived by: his wife Shirley Mayer of Loganville; his children, Bobby Mayer of Brookhaven, Stephen Mayer of Tucker, James Mayer of Loganville and Lynda; his son-in-law Alan VanHassel of Loganville; his grandchildren, Marissa VanHassel, Ty VanHassel and Cole VanHassel; and his brother-in-law Thomas Yanisko of Reading, PA. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews; numerous family and friends.
