He was predeceased by: his parents, Rev. Roy Melton and Edna Smith Melton; his wife Linda Joyce Elrod Melton; his son Ryan Melton; his brother Wayne Melton (Martha); and his brother-in-law Hulyn Kight.

He is survived by: his daughter Deana Mitchell (Matt); his grandchildren, Lainey Mitchell and Garrison Mitchell; his daughter-in-law Melissa Melton; his siblings, Anne Kight and Allen Melton (Doris); his sisters-in-law, Elaine Elrod Broussard and Pam Elrod Woodson; and his caregiver Rhonda Hughs.
