He was predeceased by : his parents, James Newton Smith Jr. and Ethel Evelyn Huckaby Smith. He is survived by : his wife Gayle Foster Smith; his children, Kelley Powell (Todd), Lori Johnson (Phillip), Amy May (Rod) and Jared Smith (Betsy); his grandchildren, Reid Powell, Jessie Powell, Payton Johnson (Emily), Mitchell Johnson, Brock Johnson, Lydia May, Douglas May, Lizzy May and Brogen Smith; his siblings, Lucretia Sheppard (Ray), Pam Harris (Bernie) and Eddie Smith (Kay); and his brothers-in-law, Mike Foster (Rachel) and Gary Foster. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
