He was predeceased by: his parents, Whit Asberry Thomaston and Willie Mae Brooks Thomaston; his wife Frances Hadaway Thomaston; and his siblings, John Thomaston, Janie Levins, Agnes Cole and Joy Peace.

He is survived by: his daughter Hannah Thomaston Brown; his son-in-law Mark Brown; and his grandchildren, Caleb Brown and Callie Brown.
