He was predeceased by: his parents, Toby Johnson and Laura Smith Johnson; his granddaughter Amanda Jo Johnson; his brother Paul Johnson; and his stepson Jeff Smith.

He is survived by: his wife Helen Garner Johnson; and his children, Paul Johnson, Leigh-Jay Palmer (Donnie), Anita Simpson, Tina Meeks (Johnny) and Tonya Milton (Mike). He is also survived by many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren.
