He was predeceased by: his parents, Eloise Moore and Marion Dudley Kitchens; his in-laws, Bernice and Charlie Meridth; his son Jonathan Brookins; his sister Linda Schultheiss; and his brother-in-law Ricky Meridth (Kate).

He is survived by: his wife Patricia "Shan" Kitchens of Gordon; his daughter Christina Ann Ritzema (Justin) of Richmond Hill; his daughter-in-law Michelle Brookins of Milledgeville; his sibling Marion Kitchens Jr. (Judy) of Summerduck, VA; his siblings-in-law, Nancy Thomas (Dan), Richard Schultheiss and Renee Gant (Chuck); his grandchildren, Corey Brookins, Lily Ritzema and Rider Ritzema; and his pet Raider. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
