He was predeceased by : his parents, Garland Bates and Frances McGuffey Bates; and his brother Doyle Bates. He is survived by : his spouse Teriann Allen; his daughters, Natalie Bates Boswell of Monroe, Julie Bates Knapp of Athens and Erica Bates of Waterville; his grandchildren, Aadon Knapp, Gabrielle Boswell, Sebastian Boswell and Veronica Bates; and his sister Regina Bates Adcock.
