He was predeceased by: his wife Annie Lee Atkinson; his parents, Floyd U. Atkinson, Sr. and Daisy Herndon Atkinson; his brother Floyd U. Atkinson, Jr.; and his former wife Donna Brown Atkinson.

He is survived by: his children, Alicia N. Atkinson of Ware Shoals and Adam N. Atkinson (Felisha) of Texas; his brother Jerry T. Atkinson (Marston) of McDonough; his sister-in-law Lexie Johnson of Eatonton; his stepchildren, Phil Northcutt of Newnan and Tammy Stover of Newnan; his granddaughter Haven Darnell (Joe); his great grandchildren, Everleigh Darnell of Gray Court and Grayden Darnell of Gray Court; his stepgranddaughter Mandy Stover (Mark) of Newnan; his stepgreat-grandchildren, Deanna Roberts and Austin Stover (Mandi); and his nieces, Emily M. Atkinson and Erin Floyd (Ben). He is also survived by nephews, and cousins.
