He is survived by: his wife Charlotte Mathis of Newton; his son Samuel Livingston Mathis II (Miranda) of Danville, AL; his brother Clarence Mathis of Butler; his grandsons, Samuel L. "Trey" Mathis III (Kiersten) and Hunter Glenn Mathis; and his great grandchildren, Adlee Jean Mathis and Hallie Kaye Mathis.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Newton Baptist Church.
