He was predeceased by : his parents, Mae Bell McCrary Dean and Willie Dean; and his siblings, Thomas Dean, J. C. Dean, Sammie Dean, Annie Laura Dean King, Matilda Dean Turner, Charlie Dean, Willie B. Dean, Beulah Mae Dean Clark, Ella Mae Dean Gatewood and Eddie James Dean.

He is survived by : his wife Brenda Dean; his children, Teresa Searcy Woods (Rodney) and Shannon Dean Brown (Nicholas); his grandchildren, Ethan Woods, Caymen Woods, Ade S. Brown and Noelle Brown; his sisters, Beatrice Dent, Velma Harris, Helen Schofield and Grace Taylor; his son Gerald Dean (Ann); his sisters-in-law, Sharon W. Oglesby (John), Vickie Felton, Cynthia Williams, Patricia W. Roberts (Curtis), Rachel Williams and Debra Cromer; and his friend Deacon Bennie Raines. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
