He was predeceased by: his parents, Jonathan Earl and Eva Leona Horton Whiteside; his siblings, Guy Whiteside, J. E. Whiteside, James Whiteside, Calvin Whiteside, Mary Chandler, Eunice Field and Ceda Huckaby; and his daughter Angela Dawn.

He is survived by: his wife Joan Sanders Whiteside; his children, Tim Whiteside, Brad Whiteside (Shelley) and Jana Arne (Robert); his grandchildren, Jessie, Dylan, Nicholas, Peyton, Ryan and Mia; and his great grandchildren, Luci and Carson.
