He was predeceased by: his parents, Lawrence Johnson and Edna Rapps Johnson; and his siblings, Evelyn, Robert, Gerald, Florence and James.

He is survived by: his wife Betty Brannen Johnson; his daughters, Robin Bryant and Kimberly Melvin (James); his grandsons, Adam (Amanda) and Kevin Bryant; his great grandchildren, Meadow and Molly Bryant; and his sister Diane Johnson Skiba (Fred). He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that anyone considering donating in his memory do so to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.
