He is survived by: his wife Bobbi (Fields); his daughter Dawn Carter of Fremont; his grandchildren, Randi Carter, Nicholas Carter (Nicole) and Alex Mestrey; his great grandchildren, Genavieve Carter and Dominic Carter; his sister Coralee Sue "Susie" Strow of Fremont; his siblings-in-law, Joe and Joyce Fields; his nephew Shaun Hinds (Ashley) of Washington; his great-nephews, Brody Hinds and Niko Hinds; and his great-niece Callie Hinds.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to a veterans charity of the donor's choice.
