Mr. Gene Merritt, Jr. of 1003 Merritt Road, Preston, Georgia, passed away on November 1, 2012 at his residence. The funeral service will be held on Monday, Novemer 5, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Preston, Georgia. The burial will follow in St. Mark A.M.E. Church Cemetery, Archery Community, Plains, Georgia.
Mr. Gene Merritt, Jr. was born April 12, 1960 in Preston, Georgia to the parentage of Mr. Gene Merritt, Sr. and Mrs. Lucille Riggins Merritt. He departed this life on November 1, 2012 at his home. At an early age, Gene joined New Hope Missionary Baptist Church, Preston, Georgia. He attended Tri-County High School, Buena Vista, Georgia.
He was a loving and caring guy. He was employed by the Webster County Road Department. Gene leaves to cherish his memories: a devoted wife, Mrs. Jean Hall Merritt of Dawson, Georgia; his father, Mr. Gene Merritt, Sr. of Preston, Georgia; his mother, Mrs. Lucille Merritt of Preston, Georgia; one son, Mr. Emmanuel Jones of Preston, Georgia; two grandchildren, Imani Jones and Layden Jones, both of Preston, Georgia; two devoted stepdaughters, Kimberly Hall and Diamond Hall, both of Dawson, Georgia; one sister, Mrs. Carolyn (Jesse) White of Preston, Georgia; two brothers, Mr. Marvin Merritt of Athens, Georgia and Mr. Arthur Merritt of Preston, Georgia; seven aunts, Mrs. Irene Hosley of Miami, Florida, Mrs. Leola Colbert and Mrs. Bessie Crimes of Preston, Georgia, Mrs. Pearl (Frank) McGarrah of Plains, Georgia, Mrs. Martha Harris of Seale, Alabama, Mrs. Mary Ann Hosley of Dawson, Georgia, and Mrs. Albirda Myles of Richland, Georgia; three uncles, Mr. Siscro Riggins of Preston, Georgia, Mr. Starling Riggins of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and Mr. Ernest Hosley of Albany, Georgia; two nieces and two nephews; and a host of cousins and friends.
