He was predeceased by: his parents, Sam Pickels and Annie Bell Pickels; his wife Mary Casteloes Pickels; his granddaughter Mary Margaret Pickels "Mimi"; and his siblings, Lucille Barricklow, Linda Rice and Curtis Pickels.
He is survived by: his children, Karen Hiers (Sammy) of Quitman and Anthony Pickels (Krista) of Ochlocknee; his grandchildren, Savanna "Jazzi" Pickels of Quitman and Traci Ann Moschetto (Joseph) of Quitman; his brother Alvan Jerrel Pickels (Charlotte) of Quincy, FL; and his sister-in-law Ola Mae Pickels of Quitman. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
