He was predeceased by: his parents, Archie Melvin "Shorty" Hicks and Cliff "Mickey" Pope Hicks; his wife Martha Irene Gravitte Hicks; and his siblings, Betty Kerce, Barbara Blankenship, Willie Hicks, Earl Hicks and Edward "Jitter" Hicks.
He is survived by: his sons, Russell E. "Rusty" Hicks (Charlotte) and Melvin Hicks (Gina); his grandchildren, Lori Shaw, Lacie Hardigree, Jarred Hicks, Colton Hicks, Natalie Blackwell and Nicole Castleberry; and his great grandchildren, Sophia Magnicheri, Christian Hardigree, Reyna Hicks, Brantley Gentry, Emily Blackwell, Eric Blackwell, McKinley Castleberry and Baylee Castleberry. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
