He was predeceased by: his parents, T. L. Surles and Verdie Surles; his daughter Aimee Surles; and his siblings, Tommy Surles and Madge Baker.

He is survived by: his wife Judy Dacus Surles; his children, Ritchie McCarley (Christie), Casi Harris (Brian), Nikki Wells (Justin) and Ben Wells (Shelly); his grandchildren, Jordan Warren, Baylor McCarley, Caroline McCarley and Callie Anna Harris; his great grandchild Waverly Warren; and his siblings, Michael Surles, Dan Surles and Judy Johnson. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
