He was predeceased by: his wife Tennie "Elaine" Wallin Helmes; his parents, Henchly "Hank" Helmes and Anna Mae Foster Helmes; his stepfather Raymond Foster; and his brothers, Donnie and Greg Helmes.

He is survived by: his daughters, Jessica Helmes, Cassandra Franco (Dusty), Alexis Parker and Abbie Helmes; his goddaughter Lauren Steel (Jeff); his siblings, Pam Busby (James) and Michael Helmes (Amy); and his grandchildren, Angel, Hunter, Kelsey, Noah, Leighton and Amelia. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
