She was predeceased by : her husband John; her parents, Richard Carter and Effie Lee Carter; her siblings, Denzel Carter, Mac Carter (Nancy), Mary Ellen (Frank Kincaid), Norma Patrick and Jean (Fred Pack); her brother-in-law Darrell Goins; and her sister Deanna (Johnny Davis).

She is survived by : her children, Mark Cavender (Carla), Kim DeLoach (John) and Jeff Cavender (Ginger); her grandchildren, Kevin Dukes (Mallory), Kyle Dukes (Sarah), Savannah Martin (Woody), Abigail Jones (Drew), Lindsey Cavender and Katie Cavender; her great grandchildren, Noah Dukes, Grayson Dukes, Scarlett Dukes, Kinsley Dukes, Lucas Dukes, Lucy Dukes and Mabel Dukes; her sisters, Priscilla (Kenny Renick) and Alma Goins; and her brother-in-law Chris Patrick. She is also survived by the many nephews and nieces.

Visitation was held on Thursday, April 25th 2024 from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at the Alvis Miller & Son Funeral Home (304 W Elm St, Rockmart, GA 30153). The lying in state was held on Friday, April 26th 2024 at 1:00 PM at the Second Baptist Church of Rockmart (112 S Piedmont Ave, Rockmart, GA 30153). A funeral service was held on Friday, April 26th 2024 at 2:00 PM at the same location.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in memory of Ruth and John Cavender to the Second Baptist Church of Rockmart, 112 South Piedmont Avenue, Rockmart, Georgia 30153.
