He was predeceased by: his parents, Charles Martin Smith and Elizabeth McMahon Smith; his sons, Edward Smith, Jr. and Mark Stephen Smith; his grandson Christopher Adam Smith; and his siblings, Patricia Hipp, Virginia Creel, Arthur Smith and Charlotte Zopfi.
He is survived by: his wife Barbara Peterson Smith; his sons, Bruce David Smith (Carolyn) and Eric Craig Smith (Betsy); his grandchildren, Catherine Smith, Virginia Smith and Craig Smith; and his daughter-in-law Laura Ann Moore. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
