She was predeceased by: her parents, Dessie Murphy and Charlie Murphy; her former husband Charles Blackwell Jr.; and her grandchildren, Rebecca and Lauren Blackwell.

She is survived by: her husband John L. Bennett Jr.; her son Charles Blackwell III; her aunt Lois Gilmer (Ray); her close friend Carolyn McDaniel; her stepson Marshall (Jean); her stepgrandsons, Robert and Mark; her daughter Bonnie Bennett; her granddaughters, Sharlon O'Neal (John), Victoria DeLano (Jim), Kristen Gabai (Donny) and Melissa Blackwell (Naomi); and her great grandchildren, Katherine O'Neal, Kelly O'Neal, Patrick O'Neal, James DeLano, Amelia DeLano, Ezra Gabai, Robin Gabai, Oakley Nolan and Riley Nolan.
