She was predeceased by: her husband Olen Ray James, Sr.; her children, Brenda James and Olen Ray James, Jr.; her parents, Harry Tanner and Mammie Tanner; her brothers, Harry Tanner, Jr. and Grover David Tanner; her granddaughter Cynthia Taylor; and her great grandchild Megan Taylor.
She is survived by: her daughters, Sandra James, Linda Kernea (Marshall) and Sue O'Neal (Pat). She is also survived by 7 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; 1 great-great granddaughter; 3 sisters; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Esther James' name to Shield's Baptist Church -Choir Ministry at 12684 N. Highway 27 Chickamauga, GA 30707.
