It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Benjamin Irvin Cheney Jr. of Roswell, Georgia, born in Washington, Georgia, who passed away on October 4, 2024, at the age of 98, leaving to mourn family and friends. He was predeceased by: his parents, Benjamin Irvin Cheney and Mildred Sims Cheney; his wife Carol Buky; his sisters, Lelia Freeman and Mimi Cohen; his nieces and nephews, Michael Cheney, Ben Freeman, Jr., Katherine Scardato and Mildred Coleman; and his stepson Stan Buky.
He is survived by: his daughters, Jeanne Moore (Gregg) of Marietta, GA, June Lavergne (Ken) and Joy Hammatt (Bruce) of Baton Rouge, LA; his stepson Brad Buky (Sue) of Colleyville, TX; his grandchildren, Laura May (Ben) of Brentwood, TN, Brian Parker (Allie), Robyn Vollenweider (Dariush), Brad Parker (Megan) of Baton Rouge, Scott Hammatt (Emily) of Cypress, TX and Blake Hammatt (Kristi) of Baton Rouge; his stepgrandsons, Lance Buky (Stacy) of Fort Worth, TX and Chad Buky of Colleyville, TX; his great grandchildren, Grayson, Griffin, Cheney May, Hailey, Brooke, Nathan Parker, Judson, Marguerite "Maggie" Vollenweider, Emma, Isabelle Parker, Brady, Collin, Henry Hammatt, Edward and Caroline Hammatt; his stepgreat-grandchildren, Ty, Molly Kate Buky and Kinsley Buky; and his siblings, Patricia Britt (Walter) of Durant, OK and Dr. Marion Cheney (Lynn) of Titusville, FL. He is also survived by Papa Irv loved and respected his daughters and their children.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Caroline Hammatt SOX17 Foundation Fund for pulmonary arterial hypertension research at Boston Children's Hospital.
