He was predeceased by: his parents, James Rollo Gardner and Virginia Gardner. He is survived by: his wife Coleen Gardner; his sons, Benjamin and Joseph (Annie); and his siblings, Ann Muennich (Jim), Beth Dilworth (Mike), Laura Hamilton (Dave), Amy Munroe (Phil) and James Peter Gardner (Beth).

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in memory of Joe.
