He was predeceased by: his parents, John G. Kaigler and Clara West Kaigler; and his daughter Brenda Jean Beckwith. He is survived by: his wife Betty Jean Kaigler; his children, Nancy Hankinson, Cynthia Dianne Belcher (Steve), Jesse McTaggart (Laura) and James Kaigler II (Elizabeth); his grandchildren, Stephanie Godbee, Ross Mann, Danielle Bonner (Dusty), Catie Raaker (Andy), Kaigler Mann, Erick Mann (Brandy), Taylor Stewart, Victoria Stewart and Noble Beckwith (Emily); his great grandchildren, Ashley, Kimberly Schwartz, Cole, Brooke Godbee, Olivia, Callie Raaker, Ellie, Lily Mann, Colton, Dustin, Christian Bonner and Alexander Mann; and his brother John Kaigler. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
