She was predeceased by: her parent Dea; and her son Melvin. She is survived by: her brother-in-law Melvin Kelsey; her spouse MacArthur Dixon; her daughters, Charity Kelsey Downing and Brandi Niena Omara Kelsey; her siblings, Delores Middleton, Carolyn W. Price (Louis) and Shagari LeeAndrew Williams (Donna); her grandchildren, Hakeem Harley, Jamal Kelsey, Jessica Jones, Reneka Kelsey, Robert Andrew Williams, Gregory Andrew Peters, Brandon Niem Peters, Josiah Peters and Amir Powell; her godchildren, Leandrea Thompson and Linda Robinson; and her friend Carolyn S. Heyward. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives.

Janie married Melvin Kelsey and to this union three children were born, the late Melvin, Charity and Brandi.
