He was predeceased by: his parents, Anton Jacobus and Virginia Castleman VanPuffelen; his siblings, Theo VanPuffelen and Tina VanPuffelen Fiske; and his brother-in-law Mac Fiske.
He is survived by: his wife Mary; his children, John VanPuffelen of Atlanta, Georgia, William VanPuffelen (Lindsey) of Savannah and Mary Catherine McLean (Patrick) of Bluffton; his grandchildren, Sara Kaitlin, Breck (Hannah), Josiah (Christian Emilee), Isaac VanPuffelen, JP (Megan), Mary Bennett and Catherine McLean; his siblings, Naarah Turpen and Jere VanPuffelen (Judy); and his sister-in-law Betty Geiger (Carey). He is also survived by his great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
