He was predeceased by: his parents, Marion Thomas Lanier and Mary Moore Lanier Syms; his sisters, Estelle Driggers Russell and Marianne Walker; and his stepfather Louis Syms.
He is survived by: his wife Nancy Maureen Williams Lanier; his sons, John Earl Lanier, Jr. and Wesley Hyson Lanier (Capricia); his grandchildren, Austin Lanier, Aaron Lanier, Dylan Dettmer, Victoria Brown, Benjamin Westbrook and Jayden Coe; his great grandchild Olivia Brown; and his brothers, Bucky Lanier and Ricky Syms. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Visitation will be held on Friday, May 29th 2026 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at the Fox & Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel (7200 Hodgson Memorial Dr, Savannah, GA 31406). A funeral service will be held on Friday, May 29th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the same location. A burial will be held on Friday, May 29th 2026 at 1:00 PM at the Oak Hill Cemetery (1st St, Georgia).
