John Mitchell wrote a sympathy message

“My deepest sympathy to the Dyer family. David and I served together, in the Army, at Fort Jackson, SC. David was a great friend and had a great sense of humor. We shared many laughs together. I'm sorry we lost touch with each other ,over the years, but I will always remember our friendship. Rest in peace, my good friend. John Mitchell”
