He was predeceased by: his wife Carolyn Ann Hammond Burns; his parents, Edward Duren Burns, Sr. and Glenzie Ola Gibbs Burns; his grandmother Margaret Bane Gibbs; and his siblings, Edward Duren Burns, Jr., Mable Colleen Burns Wright and Mattie Glenda Burns Richardson.
He is survived by: his son Duren Burns (Jackie); his sisters, Sylvia Burns Fowler of Long Pond and Ann Burns of Glenwood; his stepgrandchildren, Kevin Phillips of Toombs Central and Kelly Phillips Maybin (Michael) of Eatonton; and his stepgreat-grandchildren, Ryleigh Phillips, Sawyer Maybin and Wyatt Phillips. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
