He was predeceased by: his wife Ina Crowe Avery of Soperton; his parents, Ernest Wright Avery and Maggie Belle Foskey Avery; and his siblings, Natha Lodesky, Lanelle Wyatt, LaFon Avery, Ernestine Wilson and Audrey Faye Brantley.

He is survived by: his sons, David Avery (Lisa) of Soperton, GA, Alan Avery (Nancy) of Greenville, NY and Richard Avery (Kim) of Dacula, GA; and his grandchildren, Meredith Avery of Statesboro, GA, Katie Avery of Burbank, CA, Lauren Avery of Statesboro, GA, Chandler Avery (Mary Margaret) of Spartanburg, SC and Allison Avery Nall (Rolland) of Greenville, SC. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
