He is survived by: his wife Gwendolyn Middleton (Mercer University); his children, Khary Payton of Burbank, Dr. Kurlen Payton (Laura Rocchio) of Los Angeles, Kurtis Payton (Amanda) of Columbus and Kalere Payton-Guðmundsson (Rögnvaldur) of Stockholm, Sweden; his grandchildren, Karter, Maya, Elena, Kian, Claudia, Aurelia, Valkyrja, Harka Mae and Eli; his siblings, Rudolph Payton of Savannah, Paul Russell (Shirley) of Denton, Texas, Wanda Payton of Lawrenceville and Theresa Payton of Atlanta, Georgia; his cousins, Sonja Smith, Julie Manska of Los Angeles, Joette Marks of Santa Monica, Eric Payton of Atlanta and Joy Bryant of Charlotte; and his siblings-in-law, Curtis Middleton (Nettie) of Macon, Kenneth Middleton of Macon, Glenn Middleton of Macon, Delores Jones (Alfred) of Lizella, JoAnn Middleton of Macon and Regina McDuffie (Firmon) of Brunswick, Georgia.
