She was predeceased by: her parents, JT Hayes and Lula Hayes; her siblings, Rushel Hayes, Zelma Hensley and Chris Hayes; and her daughter Linda Echols.
She is survived by: her sister-in-law Sara Hayes. She is also survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews.
In honoring Katherine's memory, the family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to two causes close to her heart: the Children's Hospital of Atlanta – Scottish Rite and the Fairview Library.
