He was predeceased by: his parents, Britt McChargue and Ann Walker McChargue; his wife Dorothy Johnson McChargue; his grandchildren, Toni McChargue and Keith McChargue; and his brother Freddie McChargue.

He is survived by: his sons, Allen McChargue (Lisa) of Thomaston, Jeff McChargue (Mary Ann) of Milner and Ronald "Rock" McChargue (Lisa) of Thomaston; his grandchildren, Daniel McChargue (Beth), Christopher McChargue, Heather McGinnis (Robin), Zack McChargue (Nancy) and Caleb McChargue (Ashley); and his sister Mary Ann Brown (Floyd) of Jonesboro. He is also survived by 10 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
