We are sad to announce that on July 4, 2020, at the age of 85, Shirley Young Mercer Wheeless of Thomaston, Georgia passed away. Family and friends are welcome to leave their condolences on this memorial page and share them with the family.

She was predeceased by: her parents, William Harlen Young and Annie Baughcum Young; and her husband William O. Wheeless. She is survived by: her children, Deborah Hardy (Dick) of Yatesville, GA, Lynda White (Johnny), Tina Lee (Luther) of Thomaston, Dwight Dowdy of Thomaston, Allen Mercer (Lunelle) of Thomaston and Rusty Mercer of Thomaston; her stepson David Wheeless (Emma) of Fort Valley, GA; her brothers, Ellis Young (Susan) of Jackson, GA and Franklin Young of Dahlonega, GA; and her grandchildren, April Savage (Justin), Amelia Hardy, John Dowdy, Lance Mercer (Stephanie), Johnathan Mercer (Caroline), Brannon White (Ivey), Stacy Brumbelow (Russ), Chad Mercer and Mellissa Strange (Benji).

Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Thomaston Hospice Foundation, 512 S. Center St., Thomaston, GA 30286, or to Calvary Lighthouse Church.

“In loving memory of Shirley Young Mercer Wheeless, May God give you comfort in your time of grief. I would also like to say that Aunt Shirley was an amazing woman. She loved her children, neices and nephews, grandchildren,and her brothers and sisters. I remember the times when my pawpaw and nanny ( John and Rosie Young) would go over to her house and play games to pass the time by. I remember sitting in Aunt Shirleys' lap and felt the warm love she had for everyone. We will all miss Auntie.”
