He was predeceased by: his parents, Douglas Eubanks Dowdy and Shirley Young Wheeless; and his grandparents, W. H. Young, Annie Young, Charlie Dowdy, Tots Oxley and Florence Oxley.

He is survived by: his son John Dowdy; his siblings, Deborah Hardy (Dick), Lynda White (Johnny), Tina Lee, Allen Mercer (Lunelle) and Rusty Mercer; and his grandchildren, Kyle, Reagan, Andrew, Emma and Everett.
