He is survived by: his wife Sandra Jean Busbin Mixon; his son Jimmy Edward Mixon, Jr. (Charity Griffin Mixon); his grandchildren, Rachel Mixon and Jacob Mixon; and his sisters, Betty Douglas, Martha Ellen Jones (Buddy), Irma Royals (Aaron) and Amelia Rose Adams.
Jimmy's contributions to the community extended beyond his career, where he also volunteered at the Irwin County Waterloo voting precinct.
