He was predeceased by: his siblings, Betty Barnes White, Bonnie Barnes Moore, Katherine Barnes Graham and Edward Barnes. He is survived by: his wife Kay Wilson Barnes of Vidalia; his children, B. J. Brant (Hayne) of Ailey, Thomas Barnes of Lyons and Timmy Barnes of Lyons; his brother Paul Barnes of Hazlehurst; and his grandchildren, Carson Lashley, Wesson Lashley, Layla Barnes, Logan Barnes, Anna White, Trey Brant and Campbell Brant.
