He was predeceased by: his wife Geraldine Powell Mitchell; his son James Michael Way; his parents, Attie Mitchell of Nevada and Kathleen Jane Clark Mitchell; and his siblings, Eva Jane Mitchell and Roy L. Mitchell.
He is survived by: his sons, Clay Mitchell (Danette) of Higgston and John Mitchell, Jr. (Cindi) of Lyons; and his grandchildren, Jacob Mitchell, Daniel Mitchell (Anna), Jenessa Mitchell Cyree (Ike) of Lyons, Cassidy Mitchell of Stark, Brittany Mitchell of Hinesville, Allie Mitchell of Vidalia and Adam Mitchell (Stephanie) of Arizona. He is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
