He was predeceased by: his mother Virgie Smith; his wife Shirley Rowse Smith; and his siblings, Marguerite Pye, Nell Mock and Marvin Smith.

He is survived by: his father Emory Smith; his children, Frank Smith of Vidalia, Phyllis James (late Bill James) of Vidalia and Hugh Smith (Selina) of Vidalia; his grandchildren, Eric Smith, Hunter James (Maggie), Mark Smith (Alexis), Wendi Cason (Miles), Carson Smith (Ansley) and Lydia Smith; his great grandchildren, Chance Smith, Kenley Smith, Greyson Smith, JoAlbie James, Banks Cason, Barnes Cason, Emrie Carson Smith, Ellisyn James and Taylor Hutcheson; and his great great grandchild Reid Hart.
