He was predeceased by: his parents, Jimmie Carroll "J. C." Sowell and Anna Laura Poole Sowell; his siblings, Kenneth Scott Sowell and Carolyn Ann Sowell; and his sisters-in-law, Mollie Burke Sowell and Connie Thigpen Sowell.
He is survived by: his wife Dianne Craft Sowell; his children, Lyn Sowell Dixon of Gainesville, Melanie Sowell Alig (Tony) of Alpharetta, Jamie Sowell Schneller (Chuck) of Haynesville and Brad Sowell (Lisa) of Evans; his brother Jerry Sowell of Vidalia; and his grandchildren, Heather Irvan, Ashlei Davis, Taylor Alig, Tiffani Powers, Colt Schneller, Nick Clark, Ashton Sowell, David, Trina Guthrie, Tiffany and Chad Guthrie. He is also survived by eight great-grandchildren, bonus children.
