He was predeceased by: his parents, Willie Dowd and Ann Dowd; his wife Barbara Hawkins Freeman; his adoptive father Emory Freeman; and his sister Wynell Sharp.

He is survived by: his daughters, Pamela Boggs (Denny) of Warner Robins and Deana Willams (Leon) of Warner Robins; and his grandchildren, Melissa Kirksey (Bill), Brad Williams (Sandra) and Kelly Luther (Derek). He is also survived by four great grandchildren.
