James touched countless lives with warmth and kindness, leaving behind cherished memories that will forever echo in hearts. He was predeceased by: his parents, Floyd Smith and Mary Lou Abel; his brother Floyd Smith Abel Jr.; and his brother-in-law Pitt Edwards. He is survived by: his children, Hayley Shanteau (Ryan) of Roswell and Josh Abel (Teresa) of Athens, Georgia; his grandchildren, Lanier, Ryan Clair Shanteau, David Camick, Embry and Arthur Abel; his siblings, Suzanne Weber, Cammie Edwards and Gary Abel (Tracy); and his former wife Deborah Abel.
Visitation was held on Thursday, May 14th 2026 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the McCullough Funeral Home (417 S Houston Lake Rd, Warner Robins, GA 31088). A funeral service was held on Friday, May 15th 2026 at 11:00 AM at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church (300 S Davis Dr, Warner Robins, GA 31088).
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be given in memory of Tony to Camp Sunshine at 1850 Clairmont Rd, Decatur, GA 30033.
