She was predeceased by: her parents, Ira Cawthon and Ina Cawthon; her former husband Buford Claude Rushing; her husband D. C. "Mac" McDowell; and her son Alan Rushing.
She is survived by: her children, Susan Carpenter (David) of Elko and Bob Rushing (Susan) of Warner Robins; her grandchildren, Brad Carpenter (Megan), Amanda Carpenter Kay (Jacob), Whitney Socarras (Keith), Holli Figueroa and Kit Jordan (Sarah); her great grandchildren, Hayden Socarras, Anna Kate Carpenter, Lee Ann Carpenter, Gabi Figueroa, Jordan Figueroa and Holden Socarras; and her brother Horace Cawthon (Becky) of Jackson.
There, she enjoyed volunteering with its Food Pantry and Soup Kitchen, along with other charity work.
