He was predeceased by: his parents, Lamar Matthews and Vader Hooks Wright; and his sons, Ricky Matthews and Hugh Lamar Matthews, Jr.. He is survived by: his daughters, Candice Dean (Ben Selden) of Waycross, Brandy Matthews of Waycross and Rebecca Matthews of Waycross; his grandchildren, Devan Morgan, Dylan Morgan, Billy Roberson, Jr. (Cheyne Johns), Tristen Dziepak, Amelia Hiott (Taten McBee), Reagan Hiott and Coreyanna Steverson; his siblings, James Hooks of Waycross and Julie Heiser of Charleston; his former wife Laverne Matthews of Waycross; and his close friends, Kathy Aldridge of Waycross and Tyler McBee. He is also survived by numerous great-grandchildren.
